I'm posting this because I like these kinds of movies. Naturalistic Films rule. Films such as Lost in Translation, the Station Agent, Good Will Hunting, Before Sunrise and this one fit in the category.
Everyone check out the trailer... I'm so obsessed with it.. LOL

I have seen this trailer and cannot wait. It looks like a great film; and who jnew this dude was the masta blasta?
I thought Lost in Translations was great. I guess I'm a fan of Natualistic films too. This looks good.
P.S. I love Natalie Portman.

Yah exactly who knew Zach Braff (the guy from scrubs) has a great talent.
Damn... Natalie is getting more beautiful... love her!
It looks good, and I'm looking forward to it. But technically, so far all we really know is that the person who cut the trailer has talent ;D

I've heard really good things about Garden State. There was a charity screening a few weeks ago here in Michigan I could have gone to (one of the prodcuers is from Michigan). Supposedly Natalie and Zach attended. I should have gone, but it was at a theater 50 miles from my house and I'd already driven 100 miles that day plus played a soccer game, so I was wiped. I hope it'll be showing here in limited release. Otherwise I'll have to wait for the DVD.

what does Naturalistic mean? do you mean films that deal with life's everyday issues filmed creatively where there are no special effects nor manufactured dialogue?

I worked with Zach nearly every day for two seasons on "Scrubs", and I have to say that even though I haven't seen "Garden State" yet, I am fully confident that it will be wonderful. He is an extremely bright and talented guy. Before getting "Scrubs", he was a barely-working actor who was focusing more on writing and directing, so this doesn't come out of left field.
In the first season of "Scrubs", he lobbied for and won the job to direct the music video for the theme song. He asked me to shoot it for him and we did it in one epic day during a hiatus from shooting. There's an awful low-rez version of it upon the Scrubs site (http://scrubs-tv.com/music.html), see the box on the left side of the page. I was also considering making a short from one of his old scripts but didn't do it at the time.
Anyway, I feel certain he will become a major force in the industry a la Woody Allen once he is out of his "Scrubs" contract. I'm really psyched for him, he's a great guy.

Nice video. My wife walked by and heard it and said "Is that from Scrubs?"
Garden State has that rare "I just have to see it" vibe going on. Reminds me of the first time I saw the AMERICAN BEAUTY Trailer; I just have to see this.
I dont watch Scrubs (Don't watch a terrible amount of television) and had no idea Zach had the skills. I cant wait for Garden State.
Are you guys watching Conan OBrian??
Natalie Portman is sooo hot, she's talking about Garden State and I saw a clip, looks funny.
(she also mentions her next film is about her being a stripper, definitly going to be good...I mean...if the correct lighting is used and uh...proper shutter speed and uh...depth of field)

Really? Quite surprising -- she has shunned any association with nudity in the past.
If you want to see some brilliant acting on her part, check out her debut in "The Professional"... absolutely amazing talent.
Yeah Barry! The Professional was a great movie! My friends and I talk about that one all the time.
...Wow flashback, a long time ago, I wanted to write a script for Natalie Portman as Matilda now grown up and now "A professional" herself. This was before I learned that sequels rarely work!

Or for some brilliant acting of hers, check out Star Wars Episode I...
Sorry I couldn't resist ::)
LOL...
HAHA, I went to find a quote from Portman from Episode II...and I found this...MUCH better...
Portman:
[Filming Star Wars]"What I would do between scenes was go somewhere and cry. When you watch the film, you can actually tell, you can see in lots of scenes that I've been crying and my eyes are red. It showed on film, and I learned my lesson"
– Premiere (UK) – June, 2002
I guess she feels the same as we do. ;D

I've always wondered how such good actors feel seeing themselves in these movies...
Sweet!!! I just found out it's playing here...I think i'm going to go see it in an hour...hopefully it will keep playing and not go out due to the hurricane...

Looks like Garden State is expanding big time on 8/20. I am a manager at a theatre and we haven't gotten our bookings yet, but according to the Fox Searchlight site we're gonna be getting it. Check out the .pdf file below. It lists theatres geographically. If you don't see your city, look for major cities in the area, as this is where the distribution branches are located.

Please go see Garden State. It's sooo good. I just got back from it right now, and it's my new favorite movie.
The story is phenominal (i know i spelled that wrong) and the character arcs are amazing.
The lighting and cinematography I can only dream of being that good for my films. Each scene was done so nicely...niceley? whatever, anyways its great.
I'm going to go see it again. It's got me in the same mood that Lost In Translation left me in...fuckin' bliss.
I CAN'T wait until he gets to make another film.
Oh and Natalie Portman is soo goddamn hot in this, total the girl next door- if the girl next door was the girl of my dreams-type girl.
This movie is the first movie I left the theater getting exactly what I hoped for, which was soo much better than most movies...except for Star Wars Episode II...that film was amazing too...Ok if you're reading this and you didn't laugh, go to the hospital cause you're dead.
P.S. If you read this please post with at least a "Cool I'll check it out" or "You're a tard, quit posting." That way I know I didn't just spend an hour writing this for nothing...
Yeah that's right...an hour...so what?...I can't type fast...and womens gymnastics is on...what?
Great movie.

Patience, Grasshopper. No one's ignoring you.
Natalie Portman as Matilda is the reason why I'll probably never see her as "hot" -- she's always going to be 10 to me, and that's just creepy.

I saw the movie tonight. It was fantastic.
Very cool that 2 of my favorite movies from the last year, this and The Station Agent, were shot in my home state, New Jersey.
Sure, we might be the ecological armpit of the country and our government is corrupt, but our films rock.

I saw this over the weekend and loved it. I thought I might be disappointed because it's been built up so much and took so long to be released in my nieghborhood. But I really dug it. Funny, touching, great photography, and extremely well written, acted, and directed. I can't wait to see what Zach does next.

Ah, but those armpit chemicals seem to have an artistic effect on the residents.
A ridiculous number of celebs are/were from NJ. (And that's not even counting me and you.)
