I am currently working in a DV (NTSC 16x9 Anamorphic) timeline in FCP 6 and am wanting to use some 7d footage as b-roll. My questions are:

A. What resolution and frame rate should I shoot the 7d footage in? (I'm thinking 1024@30P?)
B. What transcode settings should I apply in MPEG Streamclip to match my timeline?

Since I will ultimately be burning to a standard def DVD in DVDSP, should I downsize my resolution when I transcode?

Thanks for your help.

What frame rate are you using for your DV edit? Standard 29.97 or 24p (23.976)? That will be a big factor.

Aside form the frame rate question, you'll need to down-convert your 7D footage to DV codec, or up-convert your DV footage to a higher codec to match. It's less ideal, as far as artifacting, to convert up than it is to convert down. On the other hand, up-converting the DV to a better codec can make for better effects rendering. Either way, you need to have everything in a matching format to edit without huge headaches.

Thanks C2V.
I am using a 29.97 DV timeline. So if it is better to down convert footage shot in 1080P, what exact settings do I need in MPEG Streamclip? I noticed under the file menu there is an "export to dv" choice. If I choose that it asks what type of compression I want (i.e. dv(dv25), dvcpro25 or dvcpro50) Aspect ratio I assume should be 16x9? Any specifics would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Okay, since you're using a 29.97 time line, stay with 30fps with your 7D. If you're going to down-convert your 7D footage, go to DV NTSC 48kHz and keep it at 16:9. That'll be your DV25 option, I believe.
