View Full Version : High Iso grain and deail resolution

I have noticed that with canon 550D when i shoot at high iso like above 800, I get a very grainy picture, but also the resolution and detail gets worse as well. Does this really effect the detail and resolution, because even after denoising the footage, the details is badly effected and it looks like it was shot in a low res video cam compared to hvx200. With Hvx200 footage, although noisy i am still able to successfuly remove the noise, without affecting the resolution and detail a lot, is this something to do with H264 compression artifacts of 550D compared to dvcproHD?

I think h264 compression plays a tiny part to non at all. Because if you took stills photos raw, you'd also see the same bleeding/smearing/blur...

Also, remember, if you are shooting in such low light as to require an ISO of 1600 or more, you are most likely WIDE open with your lens, where it is not exactly at it's sharpest. Mid-range in the f/stops will yield the sharpest results, ie f/4 to f/5.6.
