IS this the one?

Series D Softbank kits are designed for use with modern digital video cameras. The total wattage has been reduced for these more light sensitive cameras with no loss of control or light quality. Arri Fresnels with their wide flood to spot ratio are easy to control and the Video ProXS Softbank is great for interviews and the ideal size for tight locations. Try using a piece of opal or frost in the filter frame on the Fresnel to completely fill the Softbank and reduce the light level.

Hey John,

I just got an EZ FX jib with a remote controlled pan/tilt head and six foot extension kit.

The moves you can make are so fluid and awesome.

Better warn your wife... (and loan officer) ;)

There should be a 'warning/caution' lable on the side of the camera, like booze & cigarettes. ;D

The first accessory is free.

Steve, "Won't you be my neighbor?" I coildn't resist after seeing you light kit list. So the only downside is cost. So what else is knew

Barry_Green

It's not the only downside, they're also less flexible, in that you can never get a good punch of hard light out of any type of fluorescent fixture. Hard light is a vital tool towards shaping a scene, and if all you had were fluo's, you'd never have access to hard light. You can always put a softbox on a tungsten hardlight, but you can't put a "hard box" on a softlight! ;)

So, some of each. Fluo's are by far the most desirable key lights for interviews. Sticking someone under a tungsten 2,000-watt Rifa will melt their skin off, whereas putting them under a Kino Flo Diva will give you just as lovely results, but a much more comfortable working environment.

I have been shooting with Arri lights for 10 years, and I have never seen one go down in a shoot. Very reliable, high quality. I sell many other good brands, but Arri is tops in my book for quality, reliability, and price. You don't see people selling much used Arri Kits. Nobody gets rid of them after they buy them. A perfect balance will have some kino, and some tungsten, when you need more punch in a wide shot where you can't bring the kino's closer in to the subject. Video demands soft light on the human subject. Electronic signals just don't smooth facial lines like the three-dimensional body of silver halide emulsions. I always soft-light faces. It brings appeal into their eyes, too.

Just dont get the arrilite floods... they are the cheapest ones. They are a little weak, well I managed to break one and the barn doors are cheeze.

The 150-300-650 fresnels.. golden stuff.

True, they are not cast like the fresnels, so they are not as strong.

Also, if you are very tight on funds, the B & M "Mac Lights" are a fantastic bargain. 650w, you can get on eBay for 240.00 brand new with barn doors., 1000w for 260.00, And if you need any small 200w lights, 185.00

I totally agree. The B&M's are amazing lights for the price. If people would buy these instead of Lowel's and worklights, they'd be a lot better off!

And yes, you can get some decent lights off ebay for not much. I picked up an older Mole 2k for $150 (from the same B&M seller, pyramid-films). It's much, much larger than the newer unit, so you get a nicer, larger spread of light.
