First up, don't forget we had a West Fest Screenplay Contest a few fests back. Some really good material there ...
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/forumdisplay.php?f=163
Maybe hit up some of the writers from this past fest as well. First-place winner MML comes to mind. Very polished writer. Jamie Jay is one of my fave DVX writers as well. Conlanforever, obviously. Horrigan is a shoe in. Keaton's booked already. Penguin is MIA. Banks, if a Zombie twist is your thing!
There you have it. Your screenplay worries are over. Check 'em out (I'm totally resisting saying 'pardner' here).
Meanwhile, I'm putting the polish on several West Fest scripts, and they should be ready to read in a few days. Course, I grew up with Bat Masterson and Gunsmoke, so maybe my scripts will feel a little dated and episodic. Yeah, like 50 years ago.
For those of you who are feeling like your location/situation just isn't Western friendly, hit me up. There's always a way to problem solve.
My WEST FEST scripts are here ...

First up ... SINNER
A man seeks redemption after accidentally killing a farm hand. He learns redemption is not as easy as just confessing.
5 actors (2 men, 1 teen female, 2 teen males)
3 locations (barn interior, ranch exterior, church interior)
A few horses - optional, can probably fudge it
No guns
Read script here ...

Note: I tried uploading here, but get a 'no-can-do' message.
EDIT:
Just added FOOL'S GOLD
A mother and Daughter team up to earn their passage to California - with one hand on the bible, and the other on their six shooter.
5 actors (3 women, 1 tween girl, 1 man)
4 locations (exterior Cabin, wooded field, interior shack - which can be the cabin interior - and a bordello, INT and EXT)
No horses - but could easily be added
Two guns
EDIT:
Added THE LAST PHOTOGRAPH
A prized possession is in the eyes of the beholder.
6 actors (4 men, 2 women)
2 locations (INT/EXT ranch, exterior open countryside)
1 horse
1 rifle
1 antique camera
EDIT:
Added TWO BIRDS
This is an all-out Western / currently under consideration
When your secret past and kin are on the line, you better be a damn good shot.
9 actors (8 men, 1 female child)
1 location (wooded field)
8 horses
7 guns and 1 rifle

Glad to see that you're back and writing for this fest. I look forward to seeing what the members can do with your material!

Thanks John.
Yup, this is my absolute favorite genre. I didn't think DVXuser would ever do a West Fest, but really, it's the one genre with the ultimate, resonating hero.
All fingers crossed I'll get one (2?) in. If not, it will be blast watching them all.
You in?

Really? I'm not fond of traditional westerns, so I made mine a little darker. But I think all my stuff gets a little darker.

Really?
Yes, really!
I grew up when even the cartoons were peppered with Westerns. I think they are forever ingrained.
Who here remembers Quick Draw McGraw, or Yosemite Sam?
Even our old faves had their turn at 'goin' West'.

Thanks for the nod.
And I had the pleasure of seeing Mike's work. Do yourselves a favor and give 'em a read.
