Just received my panny XLR adaptor (AG-MYA30G) and used it for the first time at a birthday party last night. I was using a high end Audio-Technica AT4073A - Shotgun Condenser Microphone and noticed even with the attenuation button on I had to set my levels almost to zero to get a satisfactory sound level. Perhaps this was the wrong mic for a loud environment but I'm sure I never has this problem with my old DVX100, even in very loud settings.

Also has anyone noticed how hard the little audio wheels are to access and turn, I realize that Panny designed them not to be accidently moved but I can barely access them and setting audio levels is a real pain!

I haven't used my XLR adapter/AT875R mic in a loud environment, per se, but I have been in noisy environments (i.e., there was a great deal of ambient noise, namely wind). In both the quiet and noisy environments the response was just right for me (leaving the gain wheels centered at their default). I tend to pay attention to the sound levels, especially the clipping points, since they are easier to manage in post if they are pegging at the correct points (I often work with multiple audio tracks in post, so it is pretty critical for what I do).

So I can only think that there is something about your mic response that is overwhelming the sound levels. The AT4073A is a pretty sensitive mic, so that may have something to do with it.
