Hello all,

Read through the forums and didn't see this issue, hopefully there's a simple solution to my issue.

First, love love LOVE the HMC-40. Love everything about it!

My only problem is, sometimes when panning in a shot, as I manually pan and zoom, sometimes the footage will 'jump', as if the camera just panned quickly but briefly on it's own. It's very odd, as if the lens in the camera itself jumped on its own. It doesn't happen on every manual pan and zoom, but it does occur once out of every 10 pan & zooms. I do mostly weddings, and sometimes there's no getting a shot back. So I'd like to figure out a solution here.

Is there a setting on the camera that's wrong? Or (yikes), do I have to send them in for service or replacement?

When I say Pan & Zoom, this is what I mean:

Your subject matter is a car. Standing on the drivers side of the car about 20 feet away, you start zoomed in on the front end and pan to the back end, all the while slowly zooming out. At some point during the pan and zoom, the camera/footage will 'jump', usually in the direction of the pan (as if you manually jolted the camera in the direction of the pan, but you didn't, the camera did itself).

I use this zoom remote with the cam, not sure if that would have anything to do with it:

Does it happen without the remote?

Do you have the Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) turned on?

If you are stabilized (like with a tripod) you should turn the OIS off since it will cause just that kind of problem when panning. The OIS "thinks" the motion it is seeing is jitter that should be "stabilized" rather than the motion that you intended.

Yep, sounds like that's exactly what it is -- using OIS. Turn that off.

Let us know if this occurs on a tripod, or anything locked down.

If OIS is on, this will happen.

Hey guys, thanks for the input! I apologize for not responding sooner. I thought I had this set up to notify me by email when replies were made.

I think you guys are right... I never even thought of that. Duh. I'll turn that off and report back after my shoot this weekend.
