Hey everyone. I'm just curious what everyone is using for on camera lights on the HMC40's or has any recommendations? I'm going to be most likely getting one this weekend so I figured I'd see what experiences people have had with some.
Thanks in advance!

I don't think onboard lights are enough for this cam. Two 800 watt softboxes for me.

The best lighting, of course, would be set lighting. However, in mobile conditions, I would look for a wide panel lighting like the one wannabepilot recommended. I haven't used that one specifically, but something with at least 70 lights that puts out a wide field with reasonable brightness. A warming filter can be useful, but I found that a regular diffuser works fine in most cases if you are shooting outdoors and your white balance is otherwise set correctly (you may get better results "warming" the white balance with a blue card rather than using a warming filter on the lighting).

I have the comer 1800 and like it a lot. But, it's very intrusive to the people your filming. For static stuff where lighting is bad, it's great.

would you say that is true of pretty much all useful on-camera lights?
I mean having the big light shinning in their face is kinda the stereotypical interrogation technique, right?

Yep, I've found go with a better 1/3" 3 sensor camera if low light is something you do a lot of.

I recommend the Luxmen LEDPro X6. I'll link you to another post that I just posted about it here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showpost.php?p=2049575&postcount=19
