Hey All,
kind of in a weird situation
I was just going through my P2 cards because I have a shoot tomorrow and one of my cards came up with "Format Error".
It won't even read in my camera and on the back where there is a 1 and 2 it doesn't even light up either slot.
in camera mode I just get a red p2 with a line through it and red "FORMAT ERR!"
I put 2 other P2 cards in both slots and they work fine. Even recorded on them.
I tried an "R" Series 16 gig card and an "E" Series 32 gig Card and both work fine.
It was one of my 16 gig "R" Series cards that is coming up with the "Format Error"
Not a clue of what to do here.
My camera is running on version 4.10-00-0.00
I have never had any problems like this nor do I have a clue what to do. I figure if the card could show up somehow I could reformat it but it doesn't want to come up in the camera or on the computer it just comes up as an empty card.
even if I were to fix it I am a little hesitant in wanting to use it right now unless I could to do some real tests to make sure whatever gets recorded on there is safe.
Please if anyone has any answers to this one chime in ASAP

Are you an Apple user? And have you been "erasing" your cards by dragging the CONTENTS folders into the trash? Because that's the old-school way to do it, but when the 16GB firmware update came out, that method doesn't work anymore. So try formatting it on the computer using the P2 Format Station and see if it then shows up in the camera.

I always format my card in the camera. I never have dragged my footage to the trash. I do use a mac to transfer all my footage.
What is "the p2 format station"? can someone send me a link where I can download that and reformat this card?

Yes I know you must already have the driver, but the formatter software is in the same zip.
Download the appropriate driver for your OS. The p2 format software .DMG is located in a folder in the zip file alongside the driver.

is there a set of instructions how to do this once you install the p2 formatter into your mac?
I installed it and it comes up p2 formatter
but how do I get the card to come up? I put it in a Duel Adaptor and it comes up on the desktop but not in p2 formatter program
I also put it in the camera and hooked it up through firewire and again it comes up as no name but how do I format it?
please for the love of god help me...

Dumb question but did you drag the app to your apps folder or are you running it from the disk image? Because running it from the disk image will cause problems.
I haven't really used this utility before...there's a little box the card should show up in...maybe try dragging it in from the finder?

Hi there,
Just found this thread. I know it's a few months old already, but my experience
is the same as Ronster's and this is the only discussion I've come across that
seems to be identical to mine.
I've got two 16GB cards, and an 8GB card. All of which have functioned
flawlessly. I format in the camera. etc etc. Then yesterday, out of the blue,
one of the 16GB cards triggered the FLASHING RED error message. Will not
format, will not be read by the camera, nothing. The other two cards are
still working fine.
Just in case anyone out there has any updated ideas/experiences with this?
Maybe the card has simply failed, suddenly, but I can't imagine what
caused it to fail this way, when there has been no change in it's
environment, use, software, hardware etc. Also, it's worked reliably for a couple of years,
with light usage, so it shouldn't be worn out, and it wasn't a lemon to
begin with...
Thanks!!!

Hey,
So nobody figured out what was the issue?
I have the same exact problem, have no idea how to fix it.
Please share the info if someone found an answer.
Thanks
