View Full Version : Beating up the 5D

Little test scene of our latest psycho/ghost flick.
Beating up the guy with a POV camera (5D).

Audio is just provisional for the test.

What do you think? Is the blood on the lens to cheesy?

I dont mind the first one but the second hit with the splodge on the left well looks like a paint splodge so I would lose that one . .... I was thinking you could smudge and burn them up a bit .

Yeah, good point, thanks.

Needs better sound effects.

The first one was good, if you cut the beginning off and just use the hit. I agree the second barrage didn't work.

Was this supposed to be a documentary cameraman hitting someone? Or is this just a POV of someone hitting someone, like a head butt?

The cheese factor came in when the guy was already down, yet the attacker continues to use the camera as a weapon. By then it's no longer novel, and become gratuitous and repetitive.

Good idea, if given the right context though.

I liked them all haha! I was like, noooo stop... you're hurting the camera! I got pretty into it there... but everyone will have an opinion.

Actually it is an angry spirit that grabbed the camera, runs berserk in the house and attacks people. We call it "Ghostcam".

As I said, the audio is preliminary and will be done by an pro sound guy, I just dropped some Foley on the timeline to get an idea.

Is the ghost a 7D owner and this is his reaction to the T2i?

errr.... yeah right.

what were the effects done with?

I love what your going for here. I say gratuitous-out, my only issue is the whole thing looks really soft to me.

Quick and dirty downscaled - low bit rate windows media - crunched again by vimeo.
No wonder it looks soft. The original is much better, it was just for a quick test.

what were the effects done with?
Just a few layers in After Effects.

I like it! It looks painful. I thought the same thing about the big spash on the left though.
I think when the lens cracks, it will be difficult to make it realistic. When you are that close to a crack you'd expect to see (at least I did) little light distortions, the cracks having shiny colours or something like that as it moves.

hahahaha I was thinking that!!!

I like the blood effect by the way!

I think it would be way more realistic if you were to use a nice wide angle like a 17mm (~10mm for the 7D) get some good distortion so we feel the the camera moving towards the guys head. Right now it seems like a 50mm, and you can't observe much of a change in near/far objects.

now that would make it more a skateboaders ghost !? :)
