I already own a canon 50mm 1.4 and the Canon 28-135mm kit lens.

I'm about to buy the Tokina 11-16mm and the tamron 17-50mm 2.8 vc lenses.

I'm also thinking about the Canon 85mm 1.8 but I might be able to get the Canon 85mm 1.2 instead (maybe). So, is the 1.2 THAT much better than the 1.8?

Are there any other lens that you might suggest instead of what I've mentioned so far?

I own a 7D.

I have the Tamron sans VC. Very capable lens. I've read that the VC version is not the same lens. If you're only planning on shooting video, it probably won't matter much but if you want to shoot stills as well, I'd consider the Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS instead.

Hey Jordan, thanks. Can you explain a little more on what you mean regarding the Tamron? I'm not sure I understand.

Read this (http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Tamron-17-50mm-f-2.8-XR-Di-II-VC-Lens-Review.aspx).

He's basically saying that it's not as sharp wide open; that should not be a problem in video mode.

The 85 1.2L has some kind of servo focus system that makes it not do well with rack focus (so I have read). research more before picking that up. It is probably overkill anyway :)

I'll 3rd the Tamron VC, very capable lens at half the price of the Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS

Agreed on the Tamron 17-50mm VC - have not used the Canon EF-S, however the Tamron is a solid workhorse. Hardly ever comes off my 7D.

Skip all the Canon 85s and look at this:

You can get them off ebay for less than $300.

Looks pretty tempting at that price.

Its pointless to get the Canon 1.2s unless you plan on actually shooting at f/1.2. However, shooting with that shallow of DOF is quite difficult and might not be the look you want anyway.

I'll fourth (or fifth) the Tamron 17-50 2.8 with VC. It's a fantastic walk around lens and decent in low light.
