The subject rhymes...

Anyway this is just a question I was thinking about, nothing serious obviously. Who do you think is the best at using After Effects, Brian Maffitt or Trish/Chris Meyer? I am just curious to see what you guys think. Can you think of any users that are better than those two? I personally have no idea, but then again I don't really know the top AFX users. Just the ones that are successful at training people at it. I always thought the best user of AFX was probably some old man sitting there doing it for fun and carrer is in no way related to the film or motion graphics industry. I'd like to see what you guys think though?

I think the guys who made the se7en intro were the best ever! They took AE to a new level in my opinion.

Was that made with AE? I still to this day think that is the coolest title intro also. Is there any info online that talks about making that?

In my book without a doubt that would be Kyle Cooper. (He did se7en)

One of the best no doubt.

That's his company. They do just about everything cool you see everywhere. On the site you can watch all their work including all the film title sequences...

Side note: Chris & Trish Meyer are excellent at teaching AE. As in the actual skill of using the program, it's theories and techniques, etc. One of the best resources for an AE artist is their book series.

However...

While they have a complete and authorative grasp on USING the program and teaching it to others, their own design skill leaves little to impress. Most of their tutorials in the books, their own website, etc have very cheesy/hokey/amateurish design.

Think of it as you have Picasso and you have a "Paint Technician"... Both are masters at "using" a paint brush and paint. They both have knowledge of what each little button & menu do... but it's the true ARTIST that can make absolutely awe inspiring work.... see my post above on Kyle Cooper. :)

Indeed. Does anyone know what other programs he uses?

I'm sure AE is only one small piece of the pie over there. Without a doubt they are on the big boys' toys like Flame and Inferno, etc...

Indeed, I wouldn't be surprised to see a really crazy 3D modeling/compositing setup complete with render farm. Should email him, could be a nice guy.

ha it's most likely like trying to email spielberg to ask about his latest film. Cooper is somewhat of a "celeb" in this industry... There's even a book out about him (great book by the way)

Thanks for the link to Imaginary Forces--great site. I love the opening credits to Se7en, but it would be nice to know how much of that is actually AfterEffects & how much was done "organically" (scratching/painting on the filmstock, optical printing/focusing, etc.)

Actually I have a friend that works there. After Effects is used to generate elements. Most of there finishing work in done on an Inferno. Se7en was mostly done on a Flame.
