I've been noticing a really cool effect in many videos that i'd like to reproduce. I'm not sure if it is possible in AE or perhaps it's a filter...

Anywho, I really love the look of dark gradient sky's. I've seen them in all colors, esp. black and brown. How do I achieve this look? Is it better to buy a filter or can it be reproduced in AE? Here is an example of what i'm talking about:

It's the one in the upper corner. You can see just by the picture what i'm talking about. Watch the flick, it's pretty cool *;D

It looks like they just put a gradient on top of the footage. May have effected it a little, but for the most part, there was nothing really special that caught my eye. You could essentially make the gradient in photoshop, bring it into AE over your video, maybe add a few filters or effects to spruce it up, make it look more life-like, and bam. That's just from what I see and what I would do to replicate that.

Thanks Purpose. I originally thought just to make a simple gradient, but I wasnt sure if it was the best way to accomplish the effect.

do like purpose said, drop a gradient layer on top of your footage, then experiment with transfer modes... if it's dark, multiply might give you the look you're after...

digital film tools 55mm, has good filters for this, you can rotate the gradient, choose color, multiply etc. without leaving AE
