Implode/TV Turning Off effect

I'm trying to recreate an effect I've seen a few times (I think they use it on HBO) which recreates the look of an old television set shutting down (the picture implodes into the center from all four corners). Any tips on how to do this?

either find an ol'school tv and shoot the screen, or you could use stock footage of it... I believe it's an eyewire set called "edit effects"

another is a plugin called "bad tv" from the foundry tinderbox,
i tried a demo, dont remember if its in tinder 1, 2 or 3

another way is to composite your footage on top of the tv, then to keyframe a mask to the center
