First off, I know I might be misinformed, but here goes anyway... From my understanding, Cinegamma has a straight "curve", and film has an S-shaped curve. If I wanted to modify my footage in AE to more closely resemble film, should I keep my modified curve fully below the original Cinegamma curve, or should I to go above the curve and boost mids? I'm guessing the curve is supposed to deepen blacks, preserve midtones, then smoothen the transition between highlights and clipping (since there's no knee in cine gamma). If I'm way off target, can anyone enlighten me? Thanks... Mark.

some people like the curves in AE, to mimic certain gamma qualities of film, seriously, i would save a headache and just film look it using a plugin like filmfx, bullet or whatever

by the way, all film stocks have a different curve, toe, shoulder so that depends which stock you wanna mimic

get a chart of the certain film your going for and mimic it in curves

good point filmelife... If you're really after doing it manually, or want to save the cash, then by all means go for it... otherwise, just use what's out there and crank it out :)
