It looks like its going to be good. Only 99 bucks to upgrade too. I am looking forward to the firewire output and the new color correction tool "Color Finesse"
Are you guys going to buy or upgrade? I kind of wish Adobe would just update their software rather than making whole new versions to buy. However, it looks like they have many new features to this so I don't mind paying for that. What do you guys think?

I just got back from NAB, so I got a full test-drive of 6.5. As far as I'm concerned, they should have just called it 7.0--the upgrades are HUGE! 300 preset text effects? The ability to import PSD files as separate layers in a comp? I'm going insane waiting for it.
There were so many "oohs" and "ahs" and applause at the demo class that you would have thought you were at the Apple booth (which was another huge unveiling with Motion and FCP HD).
This update looks pretty cool... Hey Jay, you mentioned opening PSD's as layers.... how is that different from earlier versions? I've been doing that since V4. Does it now keep layer styles intact?
...now THIS is something i'm excited about!!!

No shit, the Apple "booth" was more like a convention all it's own. I think apple had the biggest display of the entire show. I spent the most time in Panasonic's "booth" though.
The "cheese" award goes to Digital Juice because they had an aging "babe" in tight snake sking pants on a stage and she talked more about herself then about the product she was presenting. Pathetic.

Kai--the difference with PSD's is that in previous version you could either:
A) Import a PSD as merged layers
B) Import a single layer from the PSD
With 6.5, you can import (in one step) ALL of the layers, not as a merged file, but as individual layers (all retaining their names/filters/transfer modes/etc.) in a seperate comp. Huge improvement & one that is enormous for my work, which usually involves utilizing a look created by the graphics department.
Good call on the cheese award Monster. I made a vow to myself after NAB to never use stock backgrounds again unless I'm forced to.

With the X-Factor plug-in, does anyone know if you can combine Macs and PC's?

Sorry to pick Jay, but you can do this in earlier versions, instead of "import as file"... when you select the PSD, you import it as a comp.. this places all the layers of the psd in a new comp, one on top of the other....

Oh yeah, i didn't realize you could do that. Let's make this easier, here's Adobe's word, straight from the fact sheet:
"New Photoshop CS Integration:
Text from Photoshop CS files--point text, paragraph text, and text on a path--is now fully editable when you import native files as compositions. Photoshop CS files saved with 16-bit color can be imported into After Effects with layers remaining intact. When you save any After Effects frame as a Photoshop file, nested compositions become editable layer sets to reflect the composition's structure; when you open the file in Photoshop, the layer sets reflect the composition's structure. You can even turn a merged Photoshop document into individual layers after it is imported into After Effects 6.5."
OH ok now that's impressive! :) Thanks Jay!
Yeah, I think the main difference with importing PSD files is that it will create comps for nested layer sets so that the nesting is essentially retained in AE.

Hey Monster, the aging babe is big time history. Her name is Kiki Stockhammer(sp) she was the first demo girl for the video toaster way back when....
she might be aging but she knows her shit. She's also fun to drink with :o
