I am going to be getting boris red or after effects 6.5 very soon , Iwas wondering if I could get some opinons on the 2 of them, pros and cons. I have no experience with either one of them so the online demos do me no good, Im starting from scratch. some of the things I am wondering about are , which one might be easier to learn , which one works better with fcp4, what can one do that the other can not , and red is $600 more is that worth it. Last thing , I cant seem to find many books on red which could make or break the deal as that is how I intend to learn which ever one I go with. Any help would greatly appreciated
thanks

Well boris red runs within FCP as a plug where AE is a stand alone app. Both are great for animating text and logos. You'll love RED because you can extruse and bevel text as well as assign it to a patch... again without leaving fcp. You can also create custom mattes and animate them with it wich comes in handy all the time.
AE is much more powerful and accepts plugins of it's own. More and more (like genarts Sapphire) are becoming available for After Effects (and more for FCP as well). I love AE for character animation. If you have to pick between one and the other ya gotta have AE but you should think about going with both.
