Just deinterlace the footage for a start

If he's shooting in 24pA mode, and capturing a pure 24p signal (removing the pulldown), it's already de-interlaced in his nle.

Deinterlacing is the real key (or 24/25P)
also
experiment with curves and levels; it is fun and you could easily get cool results... I also desaturate about -20 to -40 (that is individual taste though)
if you want Robert Richardson photo style just add some glow and set the treshold to about 80-90% so that it only affects the highligts and set the transfer mode to screen and select a/b colors and you'll hopefullt end up with something similar to a JFK, Kill Bill look... ;) (you should also experiment a little with intensity and radius so that you get an subtle effect)
or, use magic bullet... a great tool
you can take the footage in the timeline then duplicate it,on the top clip add a 10-20% blur then use overlay mode on that clip.

I have been using cinellok 2 Try it out, just released and much faster. Plus it comes with film damage and some other fun effects.
