The 1/2" CCD is practically an 1/6" 1920x1080 sensor in video mode, 1/3" due to 16:9 cropping and only one out of 4 pixels can be used. Add the f3.3 lens and you get 1/6" shallow DOF capabilities also even with the 1/3" "active" area. 1/2" is too small for 12megapixels. Take a look at the shadows in the sample images, the ISO100 is similar to the ISO1600 of a similarly priced dSLR (Nikon D40 etc). And it should be. The pixel area is 16x smaller.

only old camera's dude

maybe the lens aperature and focal are no good
ccd will be used because its computer says so, all recent camera's use full ccd

well maybe all i never understood why square ccd and cmos all have huge wides(blacked out picture maybe)

The new camera has a difference. Inferior sensor (CMOS vs superCCD). The wide angle is 4.2mm so it can't be larger than 1/2". 10megapixels will give you a pixel size similar to the older camera, if not smaller. Any cheap HD video capable still camera and any HD camcorder should produce better video than this.

You know CCD is extremely refined Tech There are still camera's in the over 50k range

i have older 3CCD cameras and they blow away all the under $500 up to $1000 camera's
sony and some other companies(Panasonic? duh) still use them, cmos are cheap very cheap

Have you noticed cmos are in all cheap crap($20 pre paid cell phones) Suburu Boxer Engine>V6

Wow a brand new Sony for over $40 Grand why no cmos ?

Panasonic $59 Grand? Lexus Bmw or Caddy ? nah a nice 2/3" HPX lol cmos = marketing bud

CCD Tech is gonna be around (supurb low light and refined technology)
