i already know the basics of AE and have made some pretty decent composites, now though.. id like to get more into the technical aspect of after effects... away from the sliders and more toward the scripting. does anyone know a good book on advanced after effects techniques and advanced compositing? thanks!

no i havent used that book. what does it teach up till? i taught AE to myself without any books so far. im a pretty advanced photoshop user so the concepts in AE came easy to me, and i have experience with Macromedia Director so the whole timeline/keyframe stuff was simelar.

The Meyers' book is phenomenal. I learned everything I know about After Effects from it. It opened up new worlds for me. Great writing and tutorial styles. I can't recommend it enough.

Is there a version for AE 6.5 coming out any time soon, or will this book cover all versions? I am brand new to After Effects so I will be starting with volume one. Thanks!

pretty sure I read somewhere they were going to come out with a new book that covers 1.5

There are three Meyer books that you want. Volumes 1 and 2 - Creating Motion Graphics and After Effects in Production. I would start with Vol 1 and progress thru them in order.

Check out this link from the Meyers web page: http://www.cybmotion.com/training/books.html

It says volume 1 3rd edition has been updated for 6.5. Vol 2 will be updated for 6.5 in spring '05 and In Production will be updated fall '04 for 6.5
