Scouting locations for a no-budget film in and around Atlanta area.
Looking for a way to shoot a short scene in jail showing prisoner release process.
Not sure where to start. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking that a real jail is out of the question, I mean, it's hard enough for documentarians to get access to the prison system. Is there a way to maybe fake it, and if so, how?

Thanks.

I don't know about Atlanta, but a lot of cities have jail facilities which for a variety of reasons (budget, maintenance, etc) are out-of-use for their intended purpose and can be filmed by arrangement with the city (like the Sybil Brandt detention center here in Los Angeles).

Checked with your local film commission?

If you can't get permission or a permit for a real jail, use a cinder block wall for a background and make some bars out of wood or pvc. Some metallic sound effects, jail cell door, etc. and the illusion is sold.
