Hello,
I cant decide between these two. The one that supports 5 pounds (DS5) is only $100 less than the one that supports 10pounds(DS10), so im tempted to get the latter. Would it be overkill for the DVX? thanks!

Hi Dan,
What did you end up buying? Are you happy with your choice? I am in exactly the same position not knowing which to get.

get the DS10. It has a 2 stage switch which supports both 5pound cameras and 10
If you have a 5lb camera and you buy a tripod with a 5lb head capacity, you will be operating it at the extreme end of what it is designed for. That leaves you zero, zip, nada room for any accessories, i.e. external monitor, mattebox, or whatever. The DS 10 is rated for 5-11lbs. Assuming you have a cam that is around 5lbs, that would be perfect as it would leave you plenty of room for added load capacity. After a lot of research on this site and comments from others here (check out the tripod FAQ stickie), I bought the DS10 for my DVX. I actually laughed out loud first time I used it. It was definitely a good choice. Do a search for the Miller. Good stuff to be found here.

Yup, that would be a two-position counterbalance system.
Position one will counterbalance up to 5.5 lbs.
Position two will counterbalance 5.5-11 lbs.
