Quick question, 35 2.0 or 105 2.5? To use mostly outdoors.

To do what? The 35mm wouldl be a decent general shooting lens, The 105 is a great not so near portrait lens. It would also be great for sports indoors.

To really get everything in the shot, you may want to look at the wide angle. Tokina 11-16 is my choice. I go with the 50 for an interview style approach.

I am assuming for you are wanting these primes for video, so I would not recommend the Tokina 11-16 as there is no aperture ring. It's a great lens, dont get me wrong- for photos. There is some distortion, too- so wouldnt be the greatest choice for video. The 105 2.5 is a classic portrait prime- that would be my recommendation and then pick up a 50 1.4 or at least a 1.8.

Guys, the 105 is a "classic portrait prime" on a (classic) film camera... on a D90 it's about a 160mm... which can be useful, but it pretty dang telephoto if ya ask me...

If you don't have one yet, and you want a long telephoto, get any iteration you can find of the Nikkor 80-200 2.8 AF. That lens has SOUL, and you can fine D series beaters for $500, which should be fine for D90 video.

I love my 80-200 2.8! But he asked about primes. And I am referring to my usage of the 105 2.5 on a camera with my Letus- however I have used it on my D300S and been very happy with it- but yes it is "pretty dang telephoto".
