What mic do you recommend for extremely loud events. I will be filming some rock concerts, and the built in mic still gives me some distortion even with the levels set almost all the way down.

use a shotgun, any repectable one should do. Then input the shotgun via XLR into input #2 and change both channels to input 2. On the levels, put one channel all the way down and the other half way. That way you will pick up the low stuff and the really loud stuff without clipping on seperate channels and in post you just choose which ever channel sounds the best.
This means of course you dont have stereo channels, if that is important to you your gonna need to double this setup and use a field mixer.

lol... we all love you too :-X
For rock concerts i will recomend to check the spesificaition of the mike ,there is the spl ( sound presser level befor distortion)rubrica for loud sond that distort the mike ,you need mike with grater number . lets say that 134 db spl is better for you than 120db .
some mikes have pad that sits between the capsul and the preamp ,so you can add it ifthe mike still distort. if you need something cheap look for cardiod or hiper cardiod octava mikes from sound room ,it can handle it . about 190 for sigle capsul and 300 for 3 different ones and -10db pad .
for very high spl i will sugest b&k mikes (dpa is the same name) that handling much more than led zeppelin ever made but it will cost you about 2k
another good one for you is shure 88 stero mike that i use sometimes for over head on drums ,the only problem that it quit large one and will change the balanse of the camera drasticly but if some one can hold it on the boom for you it can deliver very nice sound
i hope that helps
sory about my english i spend on the beach more than in scool
and now iam to old :-)
