Anyone using one? How do you like it and does it have the same transport issues as the firestore?

I spoke to them at DVexpo.. and it was a little strange, it seemed like they were not too excited about their product.
However, along the same lines and way cooler I also spoke to MCE , who released the Quickstream DV.. which is one killer hardocre little product. It even charges it's internal battery over firewire. (think of it like a ipod for your DVX) It also has some armour so you can bash it around a little more.

You've had your eye on that Quickstream for quite a while, haven't you? I thought at one point you'd given up on them.
Have they actually really begun shipping it? The new site has a lot more info and they claim a ship date of December 8th. I am definitely in the market for one of these types of devices. I just want to make sure someone tests it thoroughly before I take the plunge.
Howsabout you arrange for them to send you a test unit for a DVXUSER.COM review? What I want to know is: does it work, is it reliable, and does it work seamlessly with DVX/24P (maintaining the pulldown flags) and Vegas 4.0. Can I unplug it from the camera, plug it into the computer, drag files to the timeline and immediately tell it to print to tape, with no rendering, no hassles, etc. Also, does it work with Windows XP -- their site seems to indicate a strong preference for Mac OS.
If it does all this, consider one sold!

Yes.. I have been waiting on that thing for at least a year. I give DV tape another 3 years max before Drives become the standard.
When I saw it at the DVexpo I was pretty happy.. and the guy assured me If I want I could buy one on the spot.. ( his name is Stephan Roger 949-293-0588 - director of sales ) Anyways, I did send him an email when I got back requesting a review but who knows.. me and about 1000 other people probally are asking the same thing.

The more I read about it, the more I think "this is the one". Little touches like a retractable firewire cord and a 1/4-20 mounting socket are exactly the kind of thinking I'm looking for.
I sent them an e-mail to see if they have tested it with a 24P DVX/Vegas combo, to see if it preserves the cadence bits all the way through. If it does, I think I'm sold. Now we've just got to see which of our friendly mass-market discounters will carry it (Markertek? B&H? DVDirect? Videoguys? Any clue?)

I think MACwarehouse is the only place that will have it ASAP.. Maybe if they cant send a review sample I can at least work out a special direct price for DVXuser.com members. They have a habit of not returning emails though.

That would be hot (direct price), but even more important for me is the review...i depend on Zoomy's reviews for my accessory purchases.

YEEEEEEHAAAAWWWWW!!!
I have been dreaming about this thing for months, I really hope you get one for review, as I need to know it actually works before I send them my $800. I dont see any reviews anywhere on this type of product.

This is clearly the future of DV and I am excited to read the review, Considering I just spent a good $500 on MQ tapes spending a bit more to never have to buy tapes again is a no-brainer. As long as it works that is.

It seems like I'm shelling out $70 every week or so for a new 10-pack of tapes (after shipping), so a permanent solution would be very welcome.
You may want to shoot with tape as well, for two reasons: 1) it gives you an instant backup, and 2) apparently this Quickstream drive can read the tape's timecode and imbed it in the file as you record (if you record in .MOV format). That's really pretty cool.
I don't know if I would trust shooting only to a hard drive, but I might feel better about re-using tapes if I know that the tape is only a backup, and the real recording is going to the drive...

yes.. I too would probally run a tape as well in those important shoots... and maybe even a tape that has been used 3 or 4 times.
