View Full Version : The bag to end all bags!
01-31-2004, 01:06 AM
Hey just bought this cinebags AC bag from EVS yesterday (gotta love overnight Fedex) and it is the balls.. check it out:
The thing even has carpet on the inside bottom.. lol..
Nice! How securely does that cover close?
01-31-2004, 02:14 AM
Looks nice...but things just seem to be thrown in there. I'm not bagging on your packing skillz. I just like things to be divided up and tight.
01-31-2004, 04:01 AM
ha ha.. dude I just got the bag today... Shit is just thrown in there. Havnt decided what goes where.
And the lid closes via velcro on the front, and zippers come up from both sides. Its pretty hardcore.
01-31-2004, 05:25 AM
..do you think the dvx with ana lense and chrozsiel box flags- wings and rods +ff would fit in there without disassembly...? it looks like maybe the long way?
"dvx100 aliiiiiiive... no disassemble *..no disassemble!!""
nice bag either way.
01-31-2004, 06:55 AM
I couldn't find it on the EVS website.
01-31-2004, 09:07 AM
EVS doesnt list anything on thier website... they just got a new site so *they are slowly adding thier inventory. You need to phone or email them, firstname.lastname@example.org email@example.com
and yes... the dvx will fit in there with everything.. the dvx fits in there stock like you see it... the bag is 2x the length than the width.
01-31-2004, 09:37 AM
nice! what sort of padding does it have in the bag walls..and under the carpet? it looks like some sort of courdura material for the shell,,waterproof i imagine..any other color options? i might have to give evs a ring..
01-31-2004, 10:37 AM
its padded and structured with that Kino type planks, carpet on the bottom and hard form top... there is 2 colors, but the light blue one looks like it would get dirty real fast.
01-31-2004, 12:06 PM
Is it carry on legal? 8)
01-31-2004, 12:10 PM
Looks a little big for that.
01-31-2004, 12:26 PM
not a hope in hell could you carry this on.. you would need to buy an entire row of seats for it.
01-31-2004, 12:26 PM
they use it on the space shuttle check it out under gallery at http://www.cinebags.com
01-31-2004, 12:33 PM
Darn it! I'm looking for a good carry on :-/
01-31-2004, 01:49 PM
Kata is coming out with a specific DVX bag.. shhhh..
01-31-2004, 01:58 PM
I'm using a Quantarry bag for a carry-on. It fits the cam, a shotgun mic, some cables, some batteries, some tapes, all the basics. It's pretty snug, but lots of padding.
01-31-2004, 03:46 PM
nice looking bag but check this out http://www.burton.com/gravis/gear/products.asp?productID=526&shortMaterialNumber=G43 82301
it has a hard shell built in the bottom. I can fit my camera and labtop in my bag and it does not attract any unwanted attention
01-31-2004, 05:22 PM
yeah that is the updated version of Burton's Zoom bag.. nice bag for run and gun stuff. I have a sideways version made from a Vans bag that works well.
02-06-2004, 04:30 PM
I'm looking for a nice bag (hard or soft, I don't know) but I'm on a budget (i hate saying that, but the camera made me poor... lol). What kind of bags should I look for that are on the less expensive side?
02-06-2004, 04:43 PM
How much did she set you back?
02-06-2004, 06:35 PM
Thanks for the link.
02-06-2004, 07:08 PM
it is a GREAT bag. this is what i use for my dvx since its got a 4x4 mattebox on it. fits great. i got the 'special edition' blue/grey one for 150 a month back. i had a porta brace with their 'cradle' that i have put in the cinebag - velcros right in the bottom like it was made for it.
how do i post a pic?
02-06-2004, 07:20 PM
Emp: The Pelican 1550 is $92 at EVS with the DVXUser discount. Great all-around case and fully configurable to your needs.
They had mine to me in two days for the Express Saver charge.
02-06-2004, 11:12 PM
Yea I saw that bag in this catalog I have. For $180 or close to it, it should have a lot of space! I might look into one of those when I get some more gear. I hear it even has a case for a clapboard!
Someone mentioned they couldnt find this bag on the EVS website, well they also have a free catalog available and its in there on page 25.
02-06-2004, 11:16 PM
DVXuser discount? What discount!? Fill me in!!! :)
02-07-2004, 01:09 PM
Bought a bag today for my 'lil friend' (DVX)
It zips up with a heavy duty thick ass zipper. All sides are extra padded with the bottom having the tradtional "plastic" durable frame. More than enough room for the DVX and extra crap.
I am the guerilla man.
$32.00 at Home Depot
02-07-2004, 01:26 PM
DVX100shooter, Yes talk with Rush at EVS and tell him you are a member. He will match or beat anty legit price like from B+h Photo etc.."The friend of the family discount"
02-07-2004, 01:30 PM
John, you are the GUERILLA MAN! so now when I fly I'll just dump out all my tools and BAM! A case that can fit in the overhead and when I show up on Set they well think I'm the total pro because my camera case will look like it's been through hell and back!! ;D
02-07-2004, 01:35 PM
I had a serious problem with spending anything more than 50 bucks on a bag just cause it has the word video or cine in it. I mean, fuck, its nylon! Its a bag.
They charge cause they can I guess. But this bag really is kick ass (for me and my budget). :D
02-07-2004, 01:44 PM
I know! I really have one filled with tools. You really have me thinking about it. My pelican case is way to big for airplanes . 8)
02-07-2004, 03:00 PM
I have an old 'boat bag' for when I used to work on boats, but it was not 'right'. I looked aorund at military surpus places and then finally, home depot. Lowes had a similar bag but was no where near the quality of this one.
How can you guys spend so much on such something so basic? :P
02-07-2004, 07:20 PM
I know. *>:(
It's all relative.
02-07-2004, 07:39 PM
Some things money can't buy...
02-07-2004, 10:55 PM
you get what you pay for :)
02-07-2004, 11:10 PM
Im telling you, this bag is rockin. *
Its made for carrying your tools to jobsite day in and day out and throwing in the back of the truck. *Im stoked. It really is of quality. 32.00 bucks sounds cheap? This is not cheap, I think its just not marketed at a HIGH price demographic.
02-07-2004, 11:51 PM
Hey Elvis, does Rush work at the EVS in PHILLY or Cali? If its Philly I can shoot up there after work one day.
02-08-2004, 08:57 AM
No Rush is located at the California store...
02-08-2004, 11:18 AM
I love it! :D
This would work great with my kilt.
Hey Taylor, I could have sworn Rush works at the Glendale location. Did they say "Rush isnt here?" ???
02-08-2004, 11:55 AM
DVX100shooter. Call him in California I bet he could work it out for you to pick it up in Philly. 8)
02-08-2004, 03:10 PM
you get what you pay for :)
Actually, the quote should be:
"You rarely get what you pay for."
02-08-2004, 07:52 PM
02-08-2004, 07:53 PM
ha ha.. I shoulda been more specific.. in this bag you get what you pay for.. doesnt happen elsewhere usually.
02-08-2004, 07:55 PM
Damn it! It s a great bag! >:( :( :-[ :-X :-/ :'( :-* ;D :) ;)
Not sure though, is it the right pattern for your kilt? Oh, you mean that bag! ;D
02-09-2004, 09:03 AM
John, that bag is really workin' out for you? I have a home depot literaly feet away from my house, so I'm seriously considering it. I don't have or want to spend a whole bunch of money on a bag right now.
When I'm rich, I'll get a pimp bag made out of Nasa grade material and whatnot.
02-09-2004, 09:46 AM
Here's the deal.
It's obviously not as big as say, the bag Jarred posted in this thread. I mean, that thing is a monster.
But, At my level, I am not in need of a bag that carries 8 million items. The bag I have not only carries the DVX comfortbaly and securely, but has extra pockets and space for tapes, batteries, cell phone, folders (script), tools, gloves whateva...
$32.00 and it is not a gym bag if you know what I mean. I think this bag is perfect for I need it for. Go check it out and let me know what your take is!
Hello! I am at the California Glendale office. I may have been out to lunch? ???
02-10-2004, 08:29 AM
Steve where did you get your bags from? did you get them yet? I think your gonna love them.
John, your bag is perfect for you I imagine. There is a huge difference between a production bag and a camera bag.
A production bag you take when you are on a 3 week production out in the middle of nowhere where you need to wheel out your camera cart and have everything you possibly could need within a few feet, as the production isnt gonna wait for you when you need to run back to the van 4 blocks away to get something.
Also, its good to have a bag that closes so when you break for lunch you dont have to worry about rain or someone walking by and seeing all your gack open and pretty...
02-10-2004, 09:28 AM
You could not have said it any better. :D
02-10-2004, 12:48 PM
02-10-2004, 07:58 PM
How about this? I have used several of these for years... The ones that I bought at the store have perforated foam that can be easily custom fit for your camera (the online version doesn't show the foam). Lifetime warranty too. All for the low low price of $24. I have gotten them as low as $17.
Go to the power tool section at your local Lowes.
Even if you don't choose to use it for your camera, it makes a nice heavy duty aluminum accessory case.
Just wanted to pass along for anyone that may have not seen these.

That's a great idea as well. I saw some similar items at Home Depot but went for the 'convenience' of a bag.
Just to let you guys know, for whoever is interested, that we have 12 of the Orange Cinebags in stock as of today at $175/ea. for DVXusers. ;D
02-11-2004, 02:27 PM
Emp: *The Pelican 1550 is $92 at EVS with the DVXUser discount. *Great all-around case and fully configurable to your needs.
They had mine to me in two days for the Express Saver charge.
Is this true? Can someone from EVS confirm?
We have 0 in stock now, expecting 10 more soon (next 3-4 days).
02-11-2004, 04:51 PM
thanks for the update rush :)
02-12-2004, 10:19 AM
Should have asked ealier, but how much is it to ship to Canada? Specifically to Toronto?
02-12-2004, 11:06 AM
Im in vancouver, and I ordered something else with it and OVERNIGHT fedex cost $50. The bag is huge and doesnt fold up, so its a big box. I am sure if you didnt need it ASAP you could go with a slower shipping service and get that price down.
We have 10 1550's in stock as of now. :D
Also, I talked to Cinebags, and they said that Kmart (or the Canadian Equivalent :D) sells a plastic Rubbermaid tub for $20 that the Cinebag can drop right into. Then you can tape up the whole thing and check it in (He recommended to take the camera out first ;)).
02-17-2004, 06:09 PM
rush, rush, rush, rush, rush....thats the best tip i've had in a LONG time. i was just starting to work on what case i could drop that into and fly with. thanks for answering the question before i answered it. ;)
02-17-2004, 06:17 PM
Before I bought my little Home Depot bag (See above) I was using a plastic tuppaware container like the one you are describing.
02-17-2004, 08:07 PM
Thanks for the tip Rush.. was wondering about the rain :)

I agree with the toolbag concept -- I got my "toolbag" from Lowe's" -- internally it's 20" long -- I'm thinking of getting the longer one which is 24", long enough for to keep a shotgun mic mounted. It think it runs $36. I padded mine internally a little more with a couple of mouse pads I had lying around. Works great ... has a padded shoulder strap, tons of pockets inside and out -- and non-descript but professional looking too.
It's also a nice p-brace blue color --
I also picked up one of those little cell phone cases they sell that are made of the same cordura material (it's also blue) -- I use it to hold my wireless mic reciever. It's got various ways to mount (clip, belt loop, a little carbiner included) and it's the perfect size for the reciever. I've seen this at the checkout counters at both the Despot and Lowe's.
God bless self checkout ...
I keep my portabrace cover on my dvx 24/7 -- so everything's cordura blue. When I use my cam in public -- people just see me looking into this blue bag with my hand sticking up it, and when I sling it over my shoulder it just looks like a handbag instead of a sweet dvx. Although the dv caddie rig tends to give it away.
Dont' get me wrong -- I've got a couple of Pelicans in case I need some heavy duty packing. But for running and gunning, this shoulder bag set up works great for me.
06-30-2005, 07:18 AM
I have 2 of those. They are AWESOME.
06-30-2005, 07:36 AM
does being on the order list mean you are committed to buying the cam?
06-30-2005, 11:02 AM
It pays to be a student.
You get all that for $195 shipped.
06-30-2005, 12:45 PM
I ordered the Special Student Package today, I already have the UPS tracking #! Those Cinebag guys are awesome. I was going to get a pelican for some additional equipment (already have a 1550 for the DVX) but getting a cinebag and script bag for $180, couldn't pass that up.
07-01-2005, 05:22 AM
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=36871 check out this case...I own 4 of them for assorted video and still cameras....work great and cheap! customize them how you like. I put 2' wide velcro stips inside to attach wireless mics, chargers etc.
07-04-2005, 06:47 PM
I bought one of these cinebags at NAB this year as a show special. I filled it full of all the literature I picked up at the show and checked it as baggage on the flight home. It still looked new after the flight, and none of the zippers failed or pouches came open. A couple things I don't like about it after carrying it on a few shoots: 1) It is very awkward to carry. It feels a little wide to me, especially carrying it on the shoulder with the strap. I use to have a Kata large production case I liked better, but I think it cost over twice as much. 2) Watch out for the metal buckles on the straps. I have ripped two shirt sleeves on this beast. Still need to get some pliers and bend it down.
07-05-2005, 03:55 AM
i have the cargo bag from portabrace. it is the biggest cargo out of the series of cargo bags and i love it, the inside dividers and tons of pockets along the front and sides.
i just love that bag because i have it setup so well that when i'm on location i can fnd anything in it in 5 seconds. with the dividers i just have a system where all the audio stuff fits in one section, all the batteries and charger type stuff another section etc.
i also have the run bag #4 from porta brace, rb#4
it is a medium huge bag, inside dimensions are like 8x10x30
for lighting stuff check out the kata bag, the maze 4 is amazing, i must have close to 80 pounds of lights and the bag is still rock solid after almost a year of pretty regular use.
07-25-2005, 09:30 AM
Here's the new Kata Bag specialized for the DVX.
I just ordered one.:)
07-25-2005, 11:06 AM
Can you post a pic of the Home Depot bag? Can (2) DVX's fit in it plus some batts?
07-25-2005, 11:19 AM
It looks likes the following; it's basically cool for more Run and Gun. Unfortunatley I have a Mattebox on mine so it will not sit anymore; but I use mine now for my Glidecam which does fit perfectly and heavy duty style.
07-25-2005, 01:54 PM
Doesnt look bad at all. Think I will stop by Home Depot and take a look.
07-25-2005, 07:03 PM
I'll have to check the Home Depot bag. Damn, I hate to admit what I've been using. An insulated vinyl cooler bag that I got free from my bank!! It actually works pretty good and the theft factor is almost nil.
07-25-2005, 08:04 PM
For the time I did use it; I had no other options. And carrying it around in a T Shirt wasnt flying. Of course now Im pimping the huge Cinebag.
07-25-2005, 08:48 PM
John.. You got a blue one right?
Show us pictures !!
