Export from FCP as a native ProRes file.

Then use compressor to make a h.264 mov.

What about CS4 Premiere?

In windows, I usually make an uncompressed .avi (yeah its old school but it works) and then make a very high bitrate H.264 (.mp4 container) using the open source x264 compressor. Gives much better quality/size than quicktime's h.264 compressor but quicktime is fine for youtube/vimeo although x264 is damn fast and damn good quality as well.

I'm having problems with compressor... when I use FCP "Send To - Compressor" option, I try to export a quicktime movie but I get the "error -50" all the time.
That's why I was using "Export - Using Quicktime Conversion", inside FCP.
What bitrate do you guys use for internet? I've tried going very high like 150.000 with FCP but it doesn't change much, actually, doesn't change at all.
I'll see how MpegStreamClip and Handbrake handle a ProRess export to a h/x264 .mov file.

I use to use Quicktime conversion with FCP. Then I started to use MPEGStreamClip. But now I'm using Compressor. Compressor is simply awesome!

Basically, 5000 bits/s, H.264, and pretty much everything on 'Best'. Not sure if the last part is a good method, but it works for me.
