Hi all!
I'm curious how the process of getting the 3:2 ratio on the sensor into 16:9.
I guess some line skipping maby?
Can anyone here explain this?

If you look at the viewfinder you can see they're cutting off the top and the bottom. After that they use pixel bin-ing to lower the resolution (according to Canon reps.)

Actually I don't own a 7D (yet), so I haven't really seen it more than on pics.
What do you mean pixel bin-ing?
Any info on where I could read up on this?

Yeah, it crops the image, so it doesn't use the top and bottom of frame, although it shows the area under a translucent frame while you're recording, which is nice to see if a boom is getting close.

There are lots of good threads in the 7D section here. You could read for days on end. Check out some of Barry Greens tests, and that should help you understand the strengths and limitations of the camera.

It'd be incredible if Hudson could get Magic Lantern to record the full frame instead of cropping it, and retain all the current framerates.
