The lastest from Nikon Rumors.

Nikon Europe is paying for Nikon 800 ads
By [NR] admin | December 12, 2009
Update: the ad says “Nikon 800″ and not “Nikon D800″. Not sure what are they advertising here (the Nikon SB-800 flash has been discontinued).

If you search for Nikon D700 on Amazon.fr and scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will see a Nikon D800 ad that points to Nikon Europe website:

You can see that the link points directly to europe-nikon.com and not to a third party reseller looking for extra Internet traffic (like we had in the past), which means that Nikon Europe is paying for this ad.

Additional searches on Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de and Amazon.com did not show this ad.

Some of the latest rumors are that the Nikon D700 replacement will be called D800 and not D700s or D700x. The D800 is expected to have a new sensor (probably 18MP) and 1080 video recording capabilities and should be released latest by the Summer of 2010.

It has begun

Problems: the D700 is a bit past the middle of the Nikon cycle, and prior experience says it's due for an 's' not an entirely new model. And, a new full frame sensor model would likely go way beyond the recent release of the flagship D3(s). Wouldn't it?

On the other hand if this is at all true, this will be the camera to have bar none. A full frame Nikon glass 1080p fully manual would rock. And Zim, if it is true, you'd better go and get one! You've been vacillating for ages and it's making me depressed!

What would the price point of this be? If its not less than or at least close to the pricing of the 7D, then i say its a day late and a dollar short nikon.

I don't buy this day late and a dollar attitude. I haven't bought the 7d precisely because I am waiting for a better alternative. If Nikon drops their next fx sensor camera with full manual and HD video, then I am in regardess. There are many stubborn Nikon users who, cannot afford the D3s, and are for the next Nikon egg to drop.

I still have my DVX100b, D200 and the D70s. So I'm good until the right camera comes out or maybe a good price drop on the D300s. I don't think it has been ages but sorry your depressed.

I don't think it's necessarily stubbornness...the Nikon has a much more organic looking and feeling image than any other DSLR out there (IMHO) so hey just need a few tweeks and I think a lot of people will get on board (shhh I switched and I only needed the D300s to do it).

Hey did you sell your Canon 7d for a D300s? My best mate bought a 7d and I was quite surprised by how well it looked. Definately sharper and we could get the colours to match the d90... ?

I'm interested in seeing where the D800 is going, but for all intents and purposes I'll never get one and over the next few years I'm gonna keep my D90 for fun and immature silliness :)

Yeah...I won't go into specifics nor talk about the same old stuff...it was 100% preference. Mostly because I like Nikon still images better :) but the video just feels more organic and filmic to me. Again, just preference.

I've been screaming this for a year now. Nice to know I'm not alone in thinking so. I think most people see the clean crisp images coming out of the Canons and get caught up in that, but I much prefer the 'feel' of the Nikon image. If only they could give us better resolution and less macroblocking.

Same here. Just a preference. I appreciate the 7d/7d/GH1 images/sharpness....but alot of it still has the "video" look. I've seen some incredible stuff too....but I still prefer the "organic" look of Nikon video.

I too enjoy the look of Good Nikon footage over other cameras. And again, I hope they stay with 720p and give us manual control on the new incarnation of the d700. I am also thinking the new d700 is going to have a bump in resolution to in and around 15-18 mp. I also think it will be to capture some of the market from Canon. Maybe not the experienced user, but rather people looking to get into full frame. I say this because there are a lot of photographers who prefer the almost noiseless at any ISO 12.1mp full frame. Versus, a more noisy, higher MP full frame. Because as we all know MP are not everything.

HHL,

I just submitted my Nikon contest film. I used 5D and 7D but had to do one of the sequences with the D300s just so I could say I used a Nikon :) Really was impressed with the Nikon...very nice feel.
