I'm having a problem and would appreciate any insight you might have.

Here is the gear I'm using:

Panasonic AG-HPX-170P which creates a MFX file structure
MacBook (NOT Pro, but Intel Core 2 Duo)
7200rpm external drive connected by Firewire400

Applications I use (from the "About" menu)

P2CMS Application ver. 1.4.4
Raylight Application ver. 2.08
QuickTime Player ver. 7.6.4 (518.35) [then, underneath in smaller sized text, it says] QuickTime™ Version 7.6.4 (1327.73) [This IS QuickTime Pro]

I bring the footage in off of my P2 card using P2CMS. The files play fine within this application.

Then, I use Raylight to make QT proxies of the MFX files.

The QT proxy file is created, but I'm NOT able to view it in QuickTime on my MacBook. The QT files ARE viewable on other computers (even older computers) using the same external hard drive via Firewire400.

When I attempt to open the QuickTime proxy files, a dialogue box opens up and says:

Additional software is required for QuickTime to playback this media. It may be available from the QuickTime Components page. When I go to the QuickTime Components page, I can't find anything that tells me what I need. I don't want to purchase a bunch of components that I'm not going to need either. I'm not convinced that I even need any other components.

I have no problems playing other QuickTime files.

Anyone know or have any ideas as to what the problem is?

Thanks!

You don't have FCP installed on the Macbook. FCP installs the quicktime components that are necessary to be able to view DVCPRO-HD footage.

Wow! First post on DVXuser and I got Barry Green to respond! :-)

So is that the only way that I can view these QuickTime files?

Is there another solution besides dropping $1k on FCP???

Thanks!!!
