I am looking for a media management solution for our growing library of P2 footage. We have a couple of TB's of video and we need to have a better system for storage, search, retrieval etc. We aren't very good at metatagging clips, which is something we have to rectify. At present we store all original MXF files on raid1 drives, with raid backups. In addition to storing and backing up QT files from capture scratch.

Final Cut Server looks interesting but it doesnt seem to support natively the MXF format. if i understand correctly we would first need to wrap the MXF files as QT files and then we can import them into Final Cut Server. So workflow would be offload P2 cards using something like P2 Log Pro or Raylight (or i suppose FCP Log & Capture), then import the reference files into FC Server.

Does anyone use Final Cut Server with P2 cards? If so is it worth it? What is your workflow? Does it have features that make it worthwhile? Or are we better just to try and use P2CMS?

thanks

Craig

Thanks for the input. Yes we need to better log and metatag all our clips, that's a given. The issue is with which software we should use for this? Im looking for a software solution that will allow simple search and retrieval, across the network so that any of our editors can have instant access to the library, can readily find clips they needs and quickly can bring them into FCP.
