I have been reading that the GH1 has a smaller mini-jack to plug in an external mic. I have a sennheiser shotgun mic that I plug in to an xlr adapter with a standard mini plug. Currently I use it with my Canon HF100. Will my xlr adapter be able to plug in to the GH1?

Thanks!

Can someone answer this question? Will I need a special mini-jack adapter?

Thanks

If your mic is self powered (i.e. it has a battery in the microphone) then you should just be able to get an adapter to go from XLR to the mini jack. If it is 48v Phantom Powered, then you need an adapter like a Beachtek adapter to add the 48v and convert the XLR to the 1/8" mini jack.

Hi Joe, thanks, yes, my mic is self powered. But my confusion is that I have read that the GH1 has a "sub" sized mini jack. So you are saying that the standard mini-jack on my XLR adapter will work?

Thanks!

Mini is 3.5mm ... the 'sub mini' is 2.5mm. Just get an adapter for your XLR-mini cable. I'm sure you can find it locally, but here's what the adapter looks like:

I've yet to find an XLR to 2.5mm....
