hey guys,
looking at the Tamron 17-50mm and trying to decide whether the VC is worth it or not... i plan to either be on the Gini Handheld rig or a tripod... I don't really plan to be "handheld" in that the camera will be in the palm of my hand... so is the VC needed for my situation?

VC for peace of mind, no VC to save money. :)

You should not use image stabilization while the camera is on a tripod. A shoulder rig probably makes it unnecessary as well. IS is mostly useful for correcting small jitters, which you are unlikely to get with a good, heavy shoulder brace.
