I saw this online the other day and haven't been able to find it since. It's a kit for a skateboard dolly that comes with wheels you attach to your own board. It runs on PVC that you also get yourself.
Anyone know what this is? A friend told me it was made by Glidecam, but I don't think that's right.

I think you're talking about Cinekinetic's Pocket Dolly.

Really nice but easy to make yourself for 1/10th the cost.

It was very similar, but not that brand. It was a little cheaper, in fact.

I actually found one at the Cinegear Expo this weekend. Modern Studio Equipment makes their own. One set is $160 (show special). At that price, it probably wouldn't be worth your time to make your own. They're normally $52 each, or $208 for a set of four. Pretty good.

I'm not arguing that it's a good price if you just want to plunk down the money, however with a bit of shopping online and a trip to Home Depot for the hardware, you can build the wheel sets for under $50. Wouldn't take more than a couple of hours if you had a saw to cut aluminum angle iron and a drill bit to place holes. Add some plywood for a base and you're around $65 tops, even with horrible lumber prices now. I had a piece of diamond plate I took to a fabrication company. They created an "H" base, welded it to the diamond plate, bent the edges, drilled holes as well as cut angle iron and drilled those holes for $100. Wheels and hardware were under $50 including good ceramic bearings. $150 for a dolly that holds over 300lbs. All depends on what your time is worth. I had to create it on no budget but it's a workhorse and will be around for years.
