I just got this email from a battery supplier:

I am glad to let you know that our battery is fully-decoded and works with
V1.2 or later firmware now. Another good news is that it is marked down.

Since I already have 2 Panasonic batteries for my GH1 I won't be trying this one. Maybe someone else will be brave enough.

I donít think saying that itíll work with 1.2 and up is such as good idea unless itís really true because a claim like that can get themselves in a lawsuit.

I actually see it as a very good thing that Panasonic is restricting batteries other than their own because this entices them to try harder with making sure the firmware updates are worth it.

The following vendor has a driver for the 3rd party battery to run in GH1:

I am looking for a high capacity battery, maybe 2,000 mAh compatible with the new GH1's firmware

I will not adapt to the new firmware and by the time one will come, maybe there will be a GH2... or other VDSLR worth looking at.
