Would this manual Nikon Nikkor 100-300mm f 5.6 zoom work on the 7D (link below)?

If so, what adapter is a good one?

I need it to video surfing. I actually really like these zoom/focus ring combos for videoing surfing because you can zoom and pull focus at the same time.

It's a bit long 7.8 inches, but fairly light 2 lbs. Would the length be a problem on the 7D? It going to be on a Tripod for sure. It's a bit slow, but for surfing I usually video at f 8 anyways, so it's no big deal.

Also, with these old manual lenses, I CANNOT get a histogram correct? Since it cannot communicate with the 7D?

The adapters are cheap and easy, but sometimes you will get zero electronics. I've been using my old Nikkor 28mm f2.8 on the 7D. It looks nice, shoots nice, but all manual.

The only question you have to ask is if the Nikon lens has a manual iris, or if you have a nikon body that you can use to set the iris before you move it to the 7D.

Also, as you probably already know, you'll probably want to mount the lens to the tripod because of weight and leverage.

That'll work.

I use a 50-300mm Nikon on my 5dmkii/7d all of the time:
