Thanks for clicking here and letting me annoy you with a basic question. Please don't :violent5:

I have opened both Barry's book and the manual, and skimmed what I could, but is there anything I need to do with the CD that comes with, (i.e. load files, etc.) I was looking for a section called "So you lost your savings on this camera, now what do you do to get started?" but found nothing.

I also swung for a couple of P2 cards which tell me "to use this product, a P2 card driver must be installed on your P2 series product." I am assuming that Panasonic took care of this?

In essence, I've got my 170, and my P2 cards...can I run and gun? I have two shoots next week and I need to get up to speed real quick.

Thanks you for your mercy one me :)

Put the p2 cards in and go. Start shooting and reading Barry's Book. Make sure you are good and comfortable before your gig.

Here are some FAQ off the top of my head. Just enough of an answer to get you looking for some in depth Barry Green answers in the book.

1.) The clicking sound when the camera is off. - Its fine its part of the OIS (look that up)
2.) Cant hear audio - make sure you are not recording in a variable frame rate that does not support audio.
3.) Cant play back clip in MCR mode. - The cam can only play back clips that are in the current record format setting. Hold down the stop button for 3 seconds to change the record mode to the clips recorded mode.
4.) Footage is not under/over cranked on playback. - The N modes are the only modes that can record over/under cranked footage and play it back slower or faster.

Just a few to get you started.

Congrats on the cam.

Excellent Jason, thank you! I did a bunch of tests, and while I was impressed with the Sony EX, I am loyal to Panny for gettin' me back in the biz and great customer service.

I have seen a bunch of threads over the months about firmware updates and such, so just making sure that there was nothing that I need to physically do or add before I shoot.

Thanks for chiming in on such a mundane question!

....now commencing reading maneuvers! ;)

Best,

Micha

PS... I like the black and white/color in scene split you have on your youtube reel. Cool stuff!

It can never hurt to upgrade your firmware.
