I'm getting a 7d soon, and I'm wondering what people are feeling is a good wide lens. Not in terms of specific lenses, but in terms of focal length.

Are there situations where your wides aren't enough?

The problem I'm running into as I look through lenses is that there are very few that are wide in terms of 1.6x crop. The selection is limited, especially if you're looking for a fast lens.

Any thoughts would be great.

The lens to use is the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. I have yet to encounter anyone who isn't a fan of that lens.

But it and other lenses in its zoom range are "ultra-wide." 15-18mm is "super-wide." 24-28mm is "wide."

A standard zoom, such as the Tokina 16-50mm, the Tamron 17-50mm, the Sigma 18-50mm, and the Canon EF-S 17-55mm, should be wide enough. All of those that I listed offer a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8. You can't really find any still photo zoom lenses that are faster. A fast, wide prime for full frame, that is affordable, isn't going to be much faster. For full frame, you can get an inexpensive 24mm f/2.0, but a 24mm f/1.4 will be around a grand.
