I cant figure out how to shoot in slow motion. I'm recording to the P2 card and I change the record format to 1080i/60i or 720p/60p and then change the frame rate to 60frame. When I record something and play it back, it doesn't look like slow motion. I remember filming on the hvx200 like a year ago and when we filmed in slow mo, during playback it played slow. what am I doing wrong?

thanks,

-Nelson

You have to use 720pN mode.

wait. you HAVE TO shoot in an N mode to achieve overcrank effects?

Yes, unless you have FCP with the frame rate converter, then your 720p 60fps material can be changed in the editor rather than in the camera.

You can do it in NLEs other than FCP, too.

Which ones? I was under the impression only the "magical" frame rate converter in FCP could handle varying frame rates in DVCPROHD.

If you want it in-camera, which sounded to me like what the OP was asking about -- recording and then playing it back.

If you use the "p" mode, you can achieve the same effect in post by stripping out the duplicate frames.

Raylight can do it.

Will Raylight work inside Premiere Pro? We have some stuff on DVCPROHD tape from our Vericam that we currently can't utilize since we aren't a Final Cut house.

Raylight would convert the files to .AVI files, which should then be usable inside Premiere Pro. So I'm pretty sure it'd work for you, but having not tried it I of course can't guarantee it.

Why would anyone rather go through all of the hassle of doing it in post rather than shooting 720 24pN?
