I just upgraded to an HVX200 from my Sony FX1 and there are alot of settings that my FX1 didnt have in the HVX and I was wondering if I post a link if some one can help me out on what the settings were of the link they used. Like Master Ped, Gamma, Detail level, V Detail level, Chroma Phase etc.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

In the link I know he shoots mainly 720 30p and 60p on scene file 1.

you can download some scene files from Panasonic here:

compare and see... some blacks very filmic, I think Pedestal minus someting ;-)

master ped is your blacks.... positive numbers make things more "grey" so to speak... you will see into the shadows more... negative numbers crush the blacks.. you won't see into the shadows as much. crushing the blacks is something that people often do for a more "filmic" look (but that's completely subjective). also used to help mask noise in darker areas of the image. Darker areas will blend into black with a lower master pedestal.

Gamma is basically how brightness info is handled by the camera... different gamma curves give different overall look to the picture. HD norm is kinda your "viideo gamma", cineD is what a lot of people consider the "filmic" gamma... I used cinelikeV a lot myself.... This is where Barry's book would come in real handy for you :)

Detail Level is... well, detail.. perceived sharpness... higher it is, the more edge enhancement you will get... but that will also make the noise more visible. lower level, is the opposite. V detail boosts vertical contrast between lines running across your screen. So, Details level actually adds edge enhancement (artificial sharpening) to the image all over. V detail just plays with the contrast levels in the vertical detail.

Chroma level is saturation. chroma phase is kinda like tint controls... yellow/green in the positives, purple in the negatives. color temp is how warm or cool your image is going to appear... negative is more "warm", positive, more cool.

You should definitely get Barry's book, which also includes some scene files for you to play with.

I'd also highly recommend shooting with 1080 on the hvx if you can... the imagae is just a lot cleaner all the way around in my opinion.

Barry Green has a book about the hvx, best $ you'll ever spend to get it to look the way you want it to.

Wow thank you to everyone, lots and lots of help in your posts, and yes I was looking a little bit ago at buying the HVX bootcamp. I was so confused in all these new features.

But once again thanks alot.

hvx bootcamp is awesome as well... it covers a ton in a very short period and is good for visual learners and hands-on type learners as well..

I had both... The book is a great thing to study over in-depth at your own pace, keep in your bag with you... And, get some nice scene files that you can load into your camera for free, courtesy of Barry... It's basically like your manual for the hvx, while the actual manual is more of a supplement :) ...

I forgot about the bootcamp, I also have it, it's good, get both so you can have the book for your camera bag.

Im guessing you use the SD card for scene files but once you add them to the SD card through a comp. how do you find and use them in the camera?

Yes, also get the book. You might want to check his website to see if he has any deals if you buy them both together.

Alright I downloaded 2 scene files from that link and I put them on the SD card and when I put them into my camera it says there are no files on the card, and suggestions?

And whats the difference between the Video Cam. and Film Cam. setting?

Did you format the SD card in the camera first?

Bunch of this here, in the manual and on the internet using a simple search

Here's a video for example:

You can always download the manual from the product website. www.panasonic.com/broadcast and then find your camera under P2.

Best.
