Hey all. This is my first post on these forums. I picked up an HPX170 the other day and it's been a blast figuring everything out.
I plugged an Audio Technica shotgun mic into the camera but I don't hear any audio. At least not from the mic. I can hear it from the mic mounted on the actual camera, but that's it.
I'm sure it's something stupid that I'm missing, but I've looked all over the camera, the instruction manual, and these forums to no avail.
Thanks for any help with this.

Check whether you've switched the input on for the mic. It's on the side of the camera behind the LCD monitor (flip it out). Also, check your audio dials (bottom left of the camera), and whether you have the mic input set to Mic or Line.

Thanks Butcher. That worked.
So many buttons. This is overwhelming, but cool.

Unfortunately cameras are not plug and play. The manual does go into detail how the connections are made and the buttons on the camera are very simple to understand. INT is your on camera mic, Ch 1 Select can be used for Input 1 (mic), Input 2 (mic) or int (on camera mic Left channel). Ch 2 Select can be used for Input 2 (mic) or int (on camera mic Right channel).
In addition, in your Recording Setup there are settings for ALC and mic gain.

Anyway keep in mind that even if you select the two XLR inputs on channels 1 & 2, the Internal mic will still be recorded, only pushed on Channels 3 & 4. Always good to know, in case your primary mic goes wrong, backups are always good :)

Did you check the battery? Have you inserted a battery into the microphone???
