Ummm, right?
While everyone's asking for handouts, I could really use an HPX170, so if someone wants to donate that, PM me.

Your offering something in return? A name in a rolling credits? Im sure many people can get that without having to donate $5000 of equipment, and I'm sure it isnt worth it anyway.
Is this some sort of joke?

You want free camera's to take apart to void the warranties?
Your gonna have to rent them.

Your in a really tough spot man.
Why 15 cams?

I really wish you the best of luck with this ambitious venture, however I am curious if you really think you'll be able to get 15 cameras of this caliber donated to you for credits.
If no rental house is going to want their existing cameras modified, who will want to GIVE you one?
Oh and what happens if you only get a few and not the 15 you're looking for? Is it absolutely necessary to have 15?

How am I going to rent them? No rental house is going to want to modify their existing HPX170 or HMC150 cameras.
Yeah, neither is an owner of their beloved camera. I mean it's their one camera that means a lot to them, and they don't have the insurance/protection a rental house does. It's crazy that you want one person to donate their expensive camera, let alone someone you don't know, let alone someone who isn't even local and would have to ship you their camera, let alone you want to void their warranty or at least take out the filter, let alone you want this but multiplied by fifteen.
Blair Witch trivia:
"One of the video cameras used by the actors was bought at Circuit City. After filming was completed, the producers returned the camera for a refund, making their budget money go even further."
There, do that x 15.
If you're willing to being involved, but don't want to donate the camera, but are interested in loaning the camera...
Wait, that quote just made me realize how you mean donate. Donate as in, not just donate the camera for the length of the shoot (ie loan) and get it back, but GIVE you the camera for good. You ARE crazy!

You can always try the Canon line of HD cameras that have 24p (HV20/30/40, HF100, etc).

Can you clarify more? What will be modified on the cameras?
Your looking for the night vision look?

Well can't you just ask some one to give you 15 Night Vision attachments, then you can ask for any 15 cameras, F--k it ask Jannard for 15 RED Ones or the first 15 Scarlets. I think you are setting your bar too low asking for 15 HVX/HPX/HMCs.
Actually now that I think about it you should ask for 30 and add a 2nd unit, that makes a lot of sense to me.

that makes a lot of sense to me.
Frankly, the initial request makes no sense to me.

how and what are you modifying on the cameras

I want to increase my post count by saying that you are nuts. You can get a green tint or B&W in post. Why in the world would you void the warranty of a camera to do it?

had to chime in also.. dude, has even ONE person given you there camera??
didn't think so..
when you were writing this, were you high (you HAD to be)? WHY do you think ANYONE would do this?
and BTW, if you could go to best buy and buy 15 cameras (a couple hundred per) if they had night vision, then you evidently have some money, ask your actors to contribute, put all of your money together and therefore you wouldn't look like some psycho asking people to donate there precious babies for something that evidently has no backing, no credibility , no names, no..
oh forget it..

That's a good idea; you need 5 minimum, why not buy five HV20's on Ebay for around $400 a piece. It seems much more realistic that you could raise $2,000 for your film than get five expensive cameras donated, and you can offer large investors the same credit.
This guy seems to have taken off the IR filter on his HV20:

And idk about saying you "need" 24p... if you can buy five consumer cameras with night vision from Circuit City or Best Buy, film your movie and return them essentially shooting your film for free, I'd say do it. Either way your film is going to look video-like, and you can at least effect the frame rate in post.

I think this is a great idea! You should look into this more.
I have even seen hv20's go for $300 on eBay, 5 of them would put you at $1500 if your a savy buyer. I'm sure you could sell them on eBay when your done for $200 each to other film makers who want to experiment with IR shooting so you'd get $1k of the $1500 back.

Well, I'm not trying to be rude but I think your request is unrealistic and it will not happen so you should start looking at other options. There are guys who removed the IR filter in their hv20's and had good success with it. There is footage on the hv20 board.
How much is your budget for this? Sounds like you have a big cast?

Okay, well I decided to just go with night vision attachments instead... So I'm now looking for rentals of HPX170s and HMC150s. And does anybody here have AstroScope Night Vision attachments, to rent, for those cameras.

And honestly, how dare you say you were offering something in return to my post.
That's just a bald faced lie. Credit is NOT offering something in return.

Holy Crap, have you people even read my last post. I can't stand people that don't read the whole damn thread.
If anybody else is interested in Renting out a camera (not giving), let me know via PM.

Yeah... an invective is probably not going to garner much support, either. Just saying.

Andrew,
You should stop now and move on quietly. If it is not abundantly clear to you at this point then let me reiterate all of the previous post in a simplified way, "NO."
Most of us here have spent many of our hard earned dollars to purchase these cameras and consider them a precious possession. Your offer at the onset contained a fatal flaw. Move on and go "make the movie happen" by other means. Nobody is giving you a camera.
Best wishes

What the hell are you talking about? I'm asking for a fricken cameras to RENT. Everybody that's posted in the last 16 hours has seemed to miss that fact. But screw it, I've already got everything I need.

I'm talking about your original post where you asked for free cameras in exchange for "credit".
Did you really think you could overcome that by deleting the original post? If you want to rent cameras there are plenty of rental houses out there, but be careful not to open them up and tinker inside as you will end up owning a lot of them and not making much of a movie at all.
Apparently, moving on quietly is not an option. Sorry if I offended you by stating the obvious.
