I just completed a short film called Grandpa's House, HVX 200, no lenses, nothing, just pure camera, straight out of the box.

Not bad for a first attempt making a film. Probably better than my first attempt with Super 8. I would suggest if you are going to shoot indoors or low light, investing in some sort of lighting will make an immense difference. Depending on what sort of mood you are after, don't forget to experiment with scene file F1/F6 which can change the impact of a scene (as in take). Some good info out there. Barry Greens series of books and DVD's would be a great help also.
