this might have been covered somewhere in the forums but i can't find the answer to my exact question and time is really running out for me...
in the hope that my short film gets projected at a screening... what's better, 1080 25p or 1080 50i ??
thanks everyone. lots of love.
oh and i've posted it here only because the camera i'm using is an hpx170 (172 really because i'm from australia)
Maybe 50i have a little bit more definition when you post, but the "best" is what you want.
I use shoot 50i for news and 25P for comercials & fiction.

If I was going out to large projection, I would go progressive!

As far as I know the HVX shoots only progressive anyway.
If you dial it to 1080 50i it only getīs a different wrapper, but the footy is always progressive.

Whichever matches the projection format closer - so @ 25fps (or 24fps) 25P would be ideal. Leave 50i for television programs.

50i can never have equal resolution to 25p, if that's what you mean by "definition." The motion can look sharper, though. :)
