I don't want to spend $50 on a tripod bag...I have the bogen 3046/503 combo with the ball leveler.

Any ideas? I wonder if I could buy one of those cheap fold out Wal Mart chairs and use its bag...haha. thoughts? :P

Wrap it in a sound blanket, and get a US Army duffle bag.

That's a nice tripod and head. If you're willing to spend damn near $500 on a tripod, you might want to think about spending an extra $50 to protect it. I've got a case for just about every peice of equiptment I have. On the other hand, if you don't plan on selling it and don't mind a few cosmetic flaws, just put a strap on it and throw it over your shoulder. They don't get damaged very easily (from my expirience).

Thats the most original idea I've heard in a long time. Cheers to whoever has a denim tripod bag.

I have the 503 / 525 kit and the bag that came with it is awesome. It can stand upright like a golf bag and the top opens (or you can open the whole thing). The tripod can be pulled out like a 9 iron (although mines a little heavier that a 9 iron)

golf bag.. as Tuff almost mentioned is my idea.. but not a bag, they make solid plastic hard cases for golf bags for pretty cheap that you can use.

I've heard some people use ski bags. I don't ski, so I couldn't tell you if it's cheaper.

don't be stupid. spend $50 and get a cheap plastic golf bag case at a sporting goods store.

you can't spend $500-$700 on a decent tripod/head and then not spend a little bit to protect it.

i was at the hardigg(stormcase) factory today and i keep bugging them to make a case that is the right size for a tripod.

If you are going to cuddle and carry that tripod then it doesn't really matter that much how tough and well designed your bag is. My bag has a strap, but I don't even like to "wear" that out. * If you ever take the legs on a plane, you will need a hardcase anyway.

It does help for it to at least be black or clean looking. I think the jean-bag thing is clever, but... *Some people do notice things like that. *I know if ever see a photographer with a veblon tripod or something majorly cheap like that--I immediately begin to wonder. *

Think of women and their purses...

Agreeably though- this is one place you can save $$. There are cheap bags out there, but you probably need a salesperson to find it for you. Online picts of cheap bags probably are hard to find

The golf bag idea is great for traveling as it alots you a little extra room in addition to your tripod. If I'm shooting for just a day and only 1 or 2 nights gone, I'll usually pack my clothes and personal items in the golf bag with my tripod, check that with lights and carry on my camera. For local shoots, I've got a soft bag I carry it in.

i haven't bought the golf bag yet as i haven't done a shoot with my new tripod 525/503 combo where i flew commercial yet...

but the beauty of it is that the airlines are very accustomed to seeing golf clubs/bags and the cases seem fairly cheap and sturdy at various golf discount stores (i saw one at dick's sporting goods that was cheap and looked fairly sturdy)
