So I've finally finished a short that I had been working on (and delaying) since May. It was shot mainly on the last weekend of September, with a few pick-ups since then. As I was editing the footage, I discovered that some badly exposed clips were even worse than I had expected, especially after gamma adjustment. This inspired a creative choice: Make the rest of the footage look like crap.
What I actually did was make the whole thing look like it was shot on 8mm film (which, you'll find, works well for the story). As I was searching for a tutorial on how to do it, I discovered that Digieffects recently released a plug-in specifically designed for this purpose. It's called Aged Film: http://www.digieffects.com/product/aged_film
The default settings gave me what I wanted. It was so quick and easy; I love this (surprisingly inexpensive) plug-in!
Here's the video: http://exposureroom.com/summerlove (password is twinpeaks)
It was shot with the 5D, the 7D, and the GH1. The vast majority of it actually came from the 5D, but since the 7D forum is the most popular in the DSLR section, I thought that it would get more views here. It's an experimental movie that was done very quick-and-dirty, and I have very mixed feelings about it. For me, it's more of a test or exercise with my cameras. So feel free to rip it to shreds, as I know you will. :)
