a buddy of mine who is a pro shooter, suggested I look into Nikkor primes, and use an adapter.
CAn someone point me to the adaptor that I'd need for the 7D, and also suggest which lenses might be a good mate for that camera? I was thinking something like a 28-35mm. Not sure what the models/years I should look for on ebay.

thanks

There's a ton of adapters on ebay. The fotodiox one is popular. There's also a thread about this somewhere here.
28-35 is a good range for your general lens, but a lot of it depends on what you're shooting. The faster lenses come in handy with low light. If I had to, I could shoot just about everything I needed with a 28mm and a 50mm.

I have a Cinevate lens adapter and it works great.

I own Nikon/Nikkor 28mm, 35, 50, 85, 105, and 135.

I also have a Sigma 28mm, and 105mm, as well as a Canon L 24-105mm.

Why using nikon lenses in a eos camera?

It's a lot cheaper than buying EF or EF-S lenses. Since autofocus doesn't function while recording video anyway, it's not a big loss. Plus, Nikons are easily adapted to other camera systems, while EF/EF-S lenses are mostly stuck to Canon. So if one would want to switch camera brands, the Nikon lenses would still be useful.

Nikon? Cheaper?

Yes. An old manual Nikon lens will be half of the price, or much less, compared to a Canon EF or EF-S lens of similar specs. Keep in mind that we're talking about old manual lenses. Modern Nikon autofocus lenses will, of course, be much closer in price to Canons.

My Nikkor 24mm f/2.0 cost me less than $200. And I consider that to be expensive.

Well, if you are comparing 2nd hand 20-40 year old lenses to new EOS lenses then, yep, they´re cheaper.

So I don't know why we're arguing. Was that not already sufficiently clear throughout the thread? Nobody was talking about comparing Nikon AF to Canon AF.

Oh, no arguing, i was just curious why you prefered nikon lenses on a canon body. That´s all. ;D

What are everybody's thoughts about Nikon lenses having a manual iris ring? Most of the Canon primes don't anymore do they?

I noticed that Philip Bloom uses Nikon mount lenses that have the iris thing...but other than that, I don't have many other data points of hearing people's preferences.

The latest nikons don´t have an iris control ring neither. There´s no big difference since you don´t use it on actual Dslrs.
