This is something I worry about at times. Do you think Vimeo get more like YouTube and remove videos with copyrighted material on their sound tracks?

One of my biggest pleasures is choosing a sound track and setting shots to music.

I hope the rights owners can see that Vimeo is not YouTube's evil sister and is a creativity orientated breeding ground for film makers.

Interesting thought. It seems highly likely they will start cracking down now that vimeo, hulu, youtube and other such tools have become more mature. They are shedding the "oh, this is just my personal boot-leg cassette tape copy" image. Many people are making money from them now. Where there's money to be had, or money to be lost, there will be lawyers. It's gonna happen, but many people will still get away with breaking copy right. Yeah, I'm talking to you, mr. evanesence makes the best soundtracks to my boring video guy!

If anyone has noticed, YouTube lately uses a different approach. Instead of removing an offending video altogether or muting the sound it shows music title and artist name and offers to buy the track. Very clever, and a much better approach than simply removing a video.

Agreed. Good observation.

I read that YouTube changed their policy because that wedding dance video that everyone was talking about made the song the 8th best selling song on Sony Musics playlist. So now companies realized that they can make some decent money so of course, they've changed their tune. :)

So now unless someone complains, they're not doing anything.
