Step down rings and vignetting

I'd like to buy some ND filters and my current lens has a 67mm front thread, but a few other lenses that I rent on occasion have a 77mm front thread. If I buy 77mm filters and use a step up ring to use with my 67mm will this cause any problems?

That's exactly what I had to do with my GH1, and I had no problems at all. You should be fine.
