I built a couple DIY zoom controllers based on the original. On the 2nd one, I was able to figure out how to spring load the zoom knob.

However, it is no longer a 20 minute project.

That would require more signals into the camera; unfortunately there is no LANC port on the DVX100 (my only complaint).

Very nice design. You can buy spring-loaded potentiometers, though.

THat's what I would have thought.. PLEASE please show me a link. Cuz I looked EVERYWHERE. Spring loaded 50K linear knob or slide potentiometer. The only really nice ones I could find were for industrial use (i.e. orders of 1000 minimum), and even then, none were spring loaded.

I'll have to ask my father about that--he's an electrical/audio engineer and usually he just sends me whatever parts I need, but I know he has a bunch of good sources for parts in small volumes.

Not like the zoom controller, no. There is no provision in the camera for remote focus control. The only way to build a remote focus controller would be to attach a motor and gear system that physically turn the focus ring. Obin Olson has designed such a system, and there was someone else here who was working on one as well.

Where I can find the project of OBIN OLSON ? Thank you

First let me say that I know nothing about all of this.

I was intrigued by your idea of a spring loaded potentiometer. I looked online for places that sell them and came up with nothing. So I started thinking, what about a jog/shuttle mechanism on a DVD player, or a tuner knob on an older car radio. Those do essentially the same thing, spring back to zero when let go. Again let me clarify that I don't know a thing about these little gizmos, so I could be on the wrong track all together.

Let me know what you think, or if these ideas are even possible.

What if you canabalized an inexpensive joystick? They come with two spring loaded potentiometers.
